What Stops You From Camping or Four Wheel Driving More?

“Never let someone else define your adventure, or tell you how to do it. Not even us.”

This is the message we put at the beginning of each post.

The Rough As Guts mandate is that we must always tell it like it is, regardless of popular opinion. Sometimes it may seem like we’re trying to gate keep the word “adventure” when we say things like “real four wheel driving” or “real camping”. That’s not our intent, but what we damn-sure are hell-bent on, is to make sure people are never putting their limitations on others, advising against reasonable risk and lowering the bar for people who just might have gone and done something incredible if they hadn’t been talked out of it.

Your life is your adventure. Live it however the hell you want.

Nothing here is written by AI. This is all from lived experience. Sections 18, 29 & 48 of the ACL prohibit us from making that statement falsely, so feel free to believe it.

What’s Stopping You From Camping More?

None of us go camping as much as we want, even though it’s something we all know we should do for our well-being. Not even me, and I run a 4WD tour business. It’s literally my job.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all the happenings of life and if you’re anything like me, you don’t put it off because you don’t want to go camping, but because you think it will happen soon, but seems to slip away.

This isn’t an article, like the other posts on this site, but a question.

And not a rhetorical one either.

We’ve got a pretty functional comments section below, and I’d love to hear what stops you from getting out in the bush.

Common Reasons Holding Us Back From Camping

Here’s some of the reasons we hear from people, sometimes on our tours or at 4WD shows. Do any of these apply to you?

  • Young kids – worried about taking them too early.
  • No one to go with.
  • Places too busy in school holidays.
  • Not enough gear.
  • Too expensive – You might be doing it wrong if that’s the case. Do you disagree?
  • You like toilets too much.
  • Workaholic.
  • Can’t leave the dog at home.
  • Don’t have a 4WD – Maybe we could recommend somewhere that’s 2WD accessible. Let us know where you are, in the comments.
  • Too old.

Freedom does not come automatically, it is achieved. And it is not gained in a single bound; it must be achieved each day”
