Best Camping Shops Perth – Where to Buy 4×4 and Camping Equipment in WA
Perth has pretty much all the same generic, big-box franchise stores as all the other major cities.
They do offer a lot of products, but often the brands are deliberately limited to whomever can provide the most competitive, large-scale corporate deals, or the seller’s own in-house brand.
BCF will either obscure or not sell products that compete with anything from XTM which is their brand.
Anaconda do the same for their in-house brand Dune.
The 4WD Supacentre only sells their own Adventure Kings products, as well as Titan, SupaTrail and Hercules which are also their brands, but are slowly all being integrated into Adventure Kings.
There are a lot of great products at most of the above stores, but the best often come from more boutique or niche brands, that you won’t find there.
Aside from that, if you really want the best advice, you’ll find it at the specialist camping shops or 4×4 stores.
So, with that in mind, here’s some of our favourite camping shops in Perth. We also recommend some individually by category below, if there’s something specific you’re after.
Our Favourite Camping and 4WD Shops in Perth
#1: Drifta Stockton Supastore Perth (Canning Vale)
Drifta is one of our favourite, go-to brands. They’re Australian owned, a lot of their products are Australian made and they’re very well priced, which is not what you often get from Australian made.
Being a brand outlet, they only sell their own range there, but it is comprehensive and all their items are of a very high quality.
Some of what they offer:
- Canvas bags and rolls
- Auto electrical gear
- Camp shower and toilet accessories
- Chairs and tables
- Vehicle drawers
- Vehicle and camper trailer kitchens
- Recovery kits
- Winch accessories
- Camp mattresses
- Sleeping Bags
- Solar panels and accessories
- Much, much more
#2: Tentworld Midland
Just one of those good-old camping stores that sell a bit of everything and really know what they’re talking about. A refreshing change to the big box experience. They also have a large range of Australian made products which includes our favourite swags: AOS.
They have a lot of brands, but here’s some of the most noteworthy:
- AOS (Aussie Outback Supplies)
- Black Diamond
- Dr Air
- Bucketloads of other brands
Rooftop Tents Perth
If you’re after a roof top tent specifically, here’s some of the places in Perth that sell good brands.
Drifta – Canning Vale
Drifta have their range of Wildlands roof top tents. A few of these are on show at their Canning Vale store. They have a good mix of hard top, side opening and soft cover roof top tents. They’re very well priced too.
Midland 4WD Centre
For those of us closer to the Eastern side of Perth, Midland forms a central hub and it conveniently has a lot of 4WD and camping related outlets.
Midland 4WD centre sells roof top tents from The Bush Company. These premium roof top tents are very nice, but you’ll be looking around the $6,000 mark for one.
Base Camp Australia – Malaga
For those living in a sand bowl on the wrong side of the city, you might find Malaga to be convenient.
Base Camp Australia is a bit more tailored to suburbanites, selling camper trailers and caravans, which is probably why they’re in Malaga. Regardless, they do have an eclectic range of roof top tents worth having a look at if you’re in the area.
Total 4×4 – Bayswater
Admittedly, we did once shitcan the packing list *ADD LINK TO OURS they published on their blog, but not their business as a whole.
Total 4×4 have a small range of roof top tents available and have a wide array of other products.
4×4 Awnings Perth
Here’s where we send people who are looking for awnings, whenever we get the question on, or leading up to, one of our tours.
Drifta – Canning Vale
Drifta are possibly best known for their awnings and they’re also our awning of choice here at Rough As Guts that we use on our tour vehicles.
They have 3 different models of 270 degree awnings as well as having 180 degree awnings and side awnings as well. Most of these are on display at the Drifta Canning Vale store.
This is the best camping shop in all of Perth for anything that’s not too 4WD specific. They cater to all markets, have a great range and very good service.
Tentworld also have a very good range of swags.
Paddy Pallin – Perth CBD
These guys are much more of a hiking/light-weight and backpacking focused outlet. They don’t sell a whole lot that translates over to 4WD style camping, but I have used them many times for all the light weight stuff required for adventure motorcycle riding and camping.
Swags in Perth
AOS (Aussie Outback Supplies) – Midvale
AOS make the very best swags available anywhere on the planet.
Australian made for over 30 years and I’ve had one of their swags that’s still in good condition for over 23 years.
Do yourself a favour and visit their show room. Their products are 100 times better than the photos. All of their Australian made canvas products are the best quality I’ve seen anywhere.
